Emma Atkins is famous for her role as Charity Dingle on Emmerdale. Not only is she a mainstay character but also a rather loved one by the fans. However, it seems that fans may have to get used to not seeing her as much on-screen as they are used to! Emma may soon make a temporary exit from the soap to accommodate a break!
“I might take a year out at some point in the future – do some travelling, do some other jobs,” Emma Atkins pointed during a chat with My Weekly. However, to ensure that no misinformation or panic spreads through the passionate fandom of the soap, the actress quickly added that she is fully committed to the soap and that any break she takes would be temporary.
“At the moment, I’m here to stay,” she said. Furthermore, she added that as long as they’re writing brilliant stuff for her character and she enjoys what she is doing, she would feel no need to go find something else to do. Currently, in her ongoing Emmerdale storyline she is trying to help Belle deal with the abusive Tom King.
Belle recently opened up to Charity about everything that Tom put her through during the time they lived together as husband and wife. Not only did Charity support Belle emotionally, she even gave her the strength to open up about it publically and even report Tom for domestic abuse.
Previously, Emma has spoken about how important such stories are and that they need to be told more often. “It’s difficult stuff to watch as well. We need to have these discussions happening in our own living rooms not just for women, but for men as well. It’s so important that we express that through the storyline happening at the moment,” she stated.
Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Emmerdale updates to find out what happens next. Meanwhile, do you think Tom’s reign of terror is over for good? Tell us in the comments.
I really don’t want this character to carry on with the abuse. Women who are in this position need to know that there is always a way out. I really would like to see him get his come-uppance – BIG STYLE.
