Why Will Lisa and Al Never Tie the Knot?
Next week, it’s the second time lucky for Mandy Dingle as she gets ready to marry Paddy Kirk. But, in real life, the actress has made it clear she won’t change her mind about marrying her long-term partner, musician Al, even though he proposed back in 2018.
The couple recently celebrated a decade of togetherness. However, both of them find the wedding idea too complicated to consider without missing loved ones. The soap star said that even if they were alive today and prices were lower, the couple would still prefer to spend their money travelling the world.
She mentioned that she just doesn’t get why so many influencers are so eager to spend big bucks on a perfect engagement announcement picture. She remarked on how traditional engagements involving proposing on one knee and asking for a parent’s blessing seem to be a thing of the past.
Riley criticised the exorbitant costs of weddings, which have surged significantly since the pandemic. She stated, “People don’t get engaged nowadays; they get Insta-engaged. They spend £400 on the right backdrop for their Instagram picture.” She expressed frustration at the trend of needing balloon arches for these social media announcements.
ITV star also shared that she and Al recently marked their tenth anniversary, with Al planning an incredibly beautiful surprise for the occasion. She mentioned that if they were to spend that amount of money, they would choose to visit Japan and explore new experiences.
According to her, true wealth is not about financial status but about exploring the world and discovering new things together. She declared, “Travel is a big thing for us both.” Also, independence is a core part of their identities. When they go to the bank, they refer to each other as ‘my wife’ and ‘my husband.’
They use these terms; the only difference now is that she wears an engagement ring instead of a wedding band. Indeed, Lisa’s take on wedding trends is refreshingly unconventional.
