Trouble in Love and Life
Gail Loman’s return to Emmerdale some years ago was to get a second chance with Ryan Stocks. But by the last quarter of 2023, things got messy when the two announced that they had a son together named Oscar.
They would have put him up for adoption years ago, believing it was for the best. But when Oscar was diagnosed with cancer and required a stem cell donor, the reality came crashing back.
Sadly, his adoptive mother Sophie didn’t trust Gail and Ryan and lied to keep them at bay.
Desperate to be useful once more, Gail arranged a “Mr and Mrs” quiz at the Woolpack—but she and Ryan bombed terribly, getting most of the questions wrong. The humiliating evening marked a turning point. Gail knew they weren’t in love anymore, and something had to break.
Emmerdale: Gail Packs Her Bags
Gail departed the village this week to begin a new role in Devon with an old friend. Her tearful farewell with Ryan demonstrated they were fond of her—but the magic had faded. Mary Goskirk escorted her out, signaling the end of this era.
With her departure, Rachael Gill-Davis also brings the curtain down on Emmerdale. Having made her first appearance as Gail in 2019 and later returned full-time in 2023, she’s now formally bid farewell to the character.
On Instagram, Rachael described the past two years as “mad” and thanked fans for their support.
She was proud to have added humour to the show and expressed warm thanks to the crew, casting, editors, and director Simon Ferguson. She said she’s keen to see what comes next.
What Now for Ryan and Oscar?
Gail’s gone—but what does this mean for Ryan and their son? With their storyline unresolved and Sophie still in the mix, anything could happen.
Rachael’s co-stars sent their love. Jay Kontzle wished her the best, and Olivia Bromley said how much she will miss her.
