Emmerdale continues to keep us on our toes. The show is set to welcome an unexpected visitor tonight on the show. It’s none other than Sir Lindsay Hoyle who is about to make a special appearance in the show. Known for his role as the speaker since 2019 and his long-standing position as MP for Chorley, Sir Lindsay is stepping out of the political domain and steps into the fictional village for a brief cameo.
Sir Lindsay Joins Emmerdale
The House of Commons speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, has come into the soap for a special cameo appearance. We see him as a rambler entering the Hide Bar & Bistro dressed in a tweed jacket and wellies, looking very different from his usual self. He has also shared a warm exchange with Laurel Thomas, played by Charlotte Bellamy, and praised her Yorkshire tea.
He happens to be a very big fan of the soap and praises its impact, both on-screen and off-screen, on the country’s economic growth. The actor has said, “Incredibly, Emmerdale has been on our screens for more than half a century—shining a light on the lived experience of others, entertaining viewers with its hard-hitting storylines while also making a major economic contribution to the North.”
The Celebration of the Soap’s Legacy
Sir Lindsay’s appearance comes as a part of the celebration of its 10,000th episode. Although his scenes were filmed earlier, their broadcast was delayed due to the restriction of the July election. The soap has been with us for almost half a century now. And till now, there have been more than 150 deaths and 100 weddings on screen.
From his appearance on the show, Sir Lindsay added, “It has been an honour to help the cast celebrate the 10,000th episode of this enduring Yorkshire-based soap, with a visit to the Woolpack. As a Lancastrian, I am hugely impressed by the talent and warmth of our friends on ‘the other side’ of the Pennines.” We would definitely love to see more new characters stepping in for new roles in Emmerdale.
