The Writer’s Actions Unmasked!
What is the reason behind this withdrawal, you ask? It’s the member of team Emmerdale -the soap’s writer, Martin Fustes. But what exactly has he done that led the show to fire him and take such a big step?
Martin Fustes has been convicted of assault and intentional suffocation! He admitted his crime at Hull Crown Court earlier this week. The writer was sentenced to 2 years of prison, 150 hours of unpaid work, 15 days rehabilitation and a 26 – session domestic abuse programme. He was also ordered to pay £2,000 compensation to the victim and given a ten year restraining order.
The Scandalous Irony!
In December, the writer penned down a script in Emmerdale, about Tom King and Belle – a storyline that focussed on physical and emotional abuse. But who knew the writer was writing his real life script!
Martin has been working for the soap since 2014 and has written over 170 episodes. The real twist is his last episode aired in February and after a few weeks the shocking court case was uncovered. After the revelations, Emmerdale’s team immediately cut ties with him and withdrew their BAFTA episode nomination.
In order to cover their backs, the soap’s team has been explaining their actions. A spokesperson of the show expressed that they were shocked to know about the disgraceful writer and they had no idea about Fustes crimes until this weekend. They also confirmed that though Martin is a freelance writer,he is no longer a member of the soap.
They also clarified that nobody at ITV and Emmerdale can’t stand domestic abuse. In fact, the show has been throwing light on this sensitive topic since the past one year.
