Euphoria fans aren’t the only ones dying for the updates on the show’s return—the cast is just as eager! The HBO series, which first aired in June 2019, follows the tale of Rue (Zendaya). She is a troubled high schooler trying to stay sober after rehab. The American teen drama also stars Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, and Colman Domingo. So, when are they coming back? Find out!
Let us tell you, the show became a commercial success, leading the showrunners to quickly renew it for a second season. However, it took almost three long years for those episodes to air. Meanwhile, HBO released two specials focusing on the aftermath of Rue and Jules’ split. The third season was slated to grace the screen in 2025, but several delays hit. For instance, Creator Sam Levinson was busy working on The Idol, and Zendaya’s schedule was quite tight.
Additionally, the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in late 2023 also pushed back production. Even the cast, including Zendaya, Jacob and Sydney, are clueless. They have hinted they’re as in the dark as fans. Jacob Elordi (Nate) joked on The Tonight Show in January 2024 that he had no idea when shooting would resume. He quipped, “I hope it’s soon, or they’re going to have to “Benjamin Button” me or something.”
On the other hand, Sydney Sweeney (Cassie) suggested in March 2024 that production might start soon amidst her hectic schedule. When asked about coming across scripts, she replied, “Maybe. I don’t know.” Furthermore, HBO confirmed more filming delays later that month. Hence, the long hiatus allowed cast members to take on other work. Despite being an executive producer, Zendaya admitted she had no updates.
“I don’t know. [I’m] not in charge.” she added, “If it’s right for the characters and everything turns out the way it should, of course.” However, the actor-model said it’s beyond her. Next, Nira King, who portrayed Rue’s mom, humorously vented during a stand-up show in March 2024. “People are like, ‘We need season 3.’ I’m like, ‘Bitch, I need season 3. I haven’t paid my rent in six months.” Following other actors’ footsteps, Storm Reid, who plays Rue’s sister, Gia, confessed to being clueless.
She added, “I think we should handle the show with care. We’ve put our hearts and soul into Euphoria.” In addition, Chloe Cherry mentioned she was also left in the dark but would love to return. “They just leave me in the dark,” she told the Daily Mail. Thankfully, HBO CEO Casey Bloys revealed Sam Levinson is actively working on the new season. Levinson is thinking about moving the setting away from high school.
Despite the delays, the core cast—Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, and Hunter Schafer—will return. So, brace yourself for the next season. In the meantime, keep an eye on Soap Opera Daily for more fresh updates on Euphoria!
