Ex-EastEnders icon Melissa Suffield runs a parenting blog and shares body-positive content on her social media. The actress, known for her role as Lucy Beale, always motivates her followers to embrace their true selves. However, her life changed last year after she was diagnosed with SIBO—small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. She has been going through a challenging time ever since, and symptoms include hair loss, nausea, and dry skin.
The soap star had to attend almost 40 appointments before getting some answers. Suffield also mentioned the other symptoms of the disease, which were bloating, loss of appetite, and weight loss. In a discussion with The Sun, she said, ‘Obviously, I’ve lost quite a lot of weight this year. But absolutely none of that has been through choice. None of it. Like I’m back in my pre-pregnancy jeans. But there’s no joy.’
Furthermore, she also added that losing weight was never the goal for her and this whole situation is something that she never wanted. ‘So that’s been tricky for sure. And then also, just on top of that, like my skin and my hair has been affected,’ Suffield added. The actress who played Lucy on the BBC programme explained that her losing weight made her realise being slim doesn’t mean you’re healthier.
