There is some fantastic news for us soap fans! We are about to get a whole new modern-day soap opera to binge on! Yes, you heard that right! CBS is all set to bring to our screens a new soap which is currently titled – The Gates. It will accompany CBS’s already booming Daytime giants – The Young and The Restless and The Bold and The Beautiful.
While not too many details have been released yet, we do know that the sudser is based on a lavish up-scale gated community. The story is centered around a wealthy black family. CBS Studios and the NAACP are joining forces with P&G Studios to produce this upcoming dishy watch.
The upcoming soap is being headed by Michele Val Jean as both – headwriter and showrunner. Many soap fans may recall the name as the creative recently left The Bold and The Beautiful, where he was previously engaged. So, she does come from a lot of daytime experience.
Additionally, Sheila Ducksworth, Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson and Kimberly Doebereine will be joining Michele as the executive producers for The Gates. While announcing the project to the media, president of the CBS Studios NAACP – Ducksworth asserted that “The Gates will be everything we love about daytime drama.”
Although he did add that there will be a new modern-day perspective to the soap. He promised that this soap will salute an audience that has been traditionally underserved, with the potential to be a groundbreaking moment for broadcast television.
Furthermore, he promised multi-dimensional characters and juicy storylines, with Black culture front and center. Honestly, we are so psyched with the news. P&G once was such a big name in Daytime with giants like – Guiding Light, As the World Turns and Another World. It’s great to see them return to soaps!
So, The Young and The Restless, and B&B fans, are you’ll as excited as us for The Gates? Tell us in the comments. Meanwhile, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more burning updates on this upcoming soap opera!
