EXIT CLUE? Coronation Street Fans Spot Possible Hint That Could Force Cassie Off

By Roy

Coronation Street viewers believe the latest episodes may have dropped a clue about Cassie Plummer’s future; and fans are already sharing the same verdict about Claire Sweeney’s upcoming departure from the ITV soap. With news confirmed that the actress will soon step away from the cobbles, many viewers now think recent scenes may have hinted at what could ultimately force Cassie out of Weatherfield.

Fans Suspect Cassie’s Story Is Heading Toward An Exit

Claire Sweeney first appeared in Coronation Street in 2023 as Cassie Plummer, arriving in Weatherfield as a struggling drug user. The storyline quickly revealed that she was actually Tyrone Dobbs’ long-lost mother and the estranged daughter of Evelyn Plummer, creating immediate tension within the family.

Despite a rocky beginning, Cassie slowly rebuilt her life. She repaired her relationship with Tyrone and Evelyn and gradually settled into the community. Things even started looking promising when she found love with Steve McDonald, and recently she had been secretly planning to propose to him.

But the timing of that proposal suddenly collapsed. Earlier this month, Steve received heartbreaking news when a phone call informed him that his father, Jim McDonald, had died. The loss hit him hard, especially because he hadn’t been able to say goodbye.

Cassie supported Steve through the emotional moment at the Rovers Return, joined by his daughter Amy and his ex-wife Tracy Barlow. Steve tried to drown his sorrows with drinks while Maggie Driscoll watched from nearby, and Amy explained that Jim had been ill for quite some time.

Awkward Proposal Twist Fuels Exit Theories

The situation soon became even more complicated when Tracy worked out Cassie’s secret plan to propose. She later told Steve about it, which left him feeling awkward and unsure how to handle things with his partner. Steve eventually reassured Cassie that he wasn’t deliberately avoiding her. He admitted he loved her but told her that he didn’t think now was the right time for marriage.

The recent loss of his father weighed heavily on him, and he also pointed out that his own romantic history was messy, noting he had already been married several times before. During Thursday’s episode, Steve attended Jim’s funeral, although the service itself happened off-screen. Viewers instead saw him surrounded by support from Cassie, Amy, Tracy, Ben, and his best friend Tim Metcalfe.

The wake at the Rovers brought more tension when two of Jim’s old friends arrived. Maggie Driscoll looked visibly uncomfortable and tried to avoid the mourners, leaving her son Ben confused by her behaviour. Meanwhile, viewers were distracted by the uneasy dynamic between Tracy and Cassie, with the pair even arguing over who should sit where in the funeral car.

For many fans, the awkward tension between Steve, Cassie, and Tracy; combined with the failed proposal, felt like a possible hint that Cassie’s relationship may not last, potentially setting up her eventual exit from Weatherfield. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
