Keep reading to know further details.
EastEnders Star Danny Dyer Calls Soap Out
EastEnders former actor Danny Dyer thinks that soap is now “s**t”. In a Paul Strank Charitable Trust event in Wimbledon, south London, he opened up about his time on the soap. He said that the majority of the time, he used to be drunk on the soap. Danny admitted that he used to take Valium and diazepam before his shots.
He further added that his co-stars made his life even more ‘trickier’ after he joined the soap. When he was asked about his thoughts about the soap now, he said, “S**t now though, ain’t it? Serves them right.”
Danny explained that the soap roped him in when they had a ‘hump’. It was getting tricky for him as he could not understand what was going on with the people there. “I’ve not made this call?” he added. He further added that he really enjoyed the first three years at the set. But when the team changes, he knows that it is going to be hard for him.
“It is a very ruthless job. I learnt a lot. Nine years was enough for me,” he explained. Danny further opened up about the cons of working in a soap. He said that when in a film, a character is going into a dark scene, they get the time to recover. But in soap you have no time to recover, which really messes up people’s minds.
Danny Speaks About Suffering Addiction Issues On Soap’s Set
He called out the soap for the lack of “duty of care”. He added that they used to not let the other person go to attend someone’s funeral. “It is such a machine,” he added. Danny suffered from an addiction problem. He even spoke about how he used to be drunk on the soap.
He added, “I was on a lot of Valium and diazepam. Still got that f***ing done somehow.” Since he left the soap, his career has been on the peak. He was even nominated at BAFTA for his Mr Bigstuff role in a Sky comedy. As of right now he is busy filming the second part of Rivals.
Danny added that he gives all the credit to his determination for whatever he has achieved so far. “It is just a matter of never giving up, really,” he said. He said that he has faced a lot of rejections, but he never stopped and always thought that he wanted to do something.
