Fans are thrilled that Emmerdale has brought back the iconic character of Tina Dingle. However, the role has now been recast and isn’t being portrayed by actress Jacqueline Pirie, who portrayed it during the 90s. Instead, when Tina walked back into Dales, in the October 17, 2024, episode, she was being portrayed by Samantha Power.
It has been a whisker short of three decades since we last saw her, thus, it was an absolute shocker when she unexpectedly arrived at Zak Dingle’s funeral. Many thought that Jacqueline Pirie (Chadwick) would be miffed about the recast, but that’s not the case at all. In fact, the legendary actress quite openly addressed the recast and wished her successor all the best.
“So many questions regarding Tina Dingle’s return,” she began. “Great character, great show. I wish @sampower_sam all the best, I loved playing her, I’m sure she will too, great cast to be a part of,” Jacqueline wrote on her social media account. She praised the soap and the amazing cast and crew that came together to create the ITV sudser.
The Emmerdale alum also answered a very pressing question by mentioning that, “no… they didn’t ask me.” Thus clarifying that the makers of the soap did not approach her to reprise the role of Tina Dingle that she essayed flawlessly back in the 90s. The new Tina responded to the post shortly. “Thanks so much, Jacqueline! Very kind xxx,” Samantha replied.
The latest spoilers reveal that Samantha is only playing a guest stint, thus, we can assume that Tina won’t stick around the village for too long. Commenting on the new role that she has bagged, Samantha revealed that she vividly remembers Pirie’s version of Tina from the 90’s. She also added that she is really thrilled to be portraying a character that makes her one of the Dingles!
