Monica Quartermaine is just one of those names that is almost synonymous with General Hospital. We say so with much thought and consideration, so hear us out! Actress Leslie Charleson has played the iconic character for 46 long and memorable years since her debut in 1977. The only times she has painfully been away from the canvas have been post-2018 when she started to be weighed down by a fall, and other undisclosed health struggles.
The last time we saw Leslie Charleson as Monica Quartermaine on General Hospital was in December 2023, when she came down to the Q-mansion to discuss Dr. Hamilton Finn’s malpractice lawsuit. Other than that, she has been largely missing from the soap. However, out of sight does not mean out of mind in Monica’s case. We see the Q family members mentioning her on a regular basis. So, her memory is very much fresh in our minds.
Unfortunately, a source close to the actress has revealed that the chances of Leslie’s return to GH is next to negligible, considering her health issues. Yet, we feel that the legendary soap star should return to the fold for one last hoorah! Especially now that her beloved son Jason Morgan is back in Port Charles. When he first returned to PC, he received an emotional yet heartbreaking letter from his mother.
But later, Jason’s portrayer Steve Burton admitted on his podcast that he would love to be reunited with his on-screen mother one last time on the soap. Honestly, we wish to see that reunion too! Currently, her absence is often explained as Monica being ill, or being away on a medical trip. However, now that Jason Morgan has decided to move back into the Quartermaine Mansion (where he hasn’t lived since his 1995 accident) he really should get to share the screen with his mother at least one last time.
