The Actor Died Over A Month Ago
The actor Ron Hale Thigpen last seen on General Hospital had left the world a month ago. The 78-year-old actor died on Aug 27, 2024, in his home in St. George, South Carolina. The saddening news about his demise surfaced on the internet a day before yesterday, on October 2, 2024, and the acting world is mourning the loss of the talented actor.
To express grief and condolences on the actor’s sudden demise, General Hospital made a post on its official Instagram handle. While posting Ron’s picture they remembered him as an incredible actor and unforgettable colleague.
Ron’s Initial Days
Soap star Ron was born on January 2, 1946 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Late James Ray Thigpen Sr. and Elinor Doerr Thigpen. He initially started acting as a stage actor in a family theater based in Columbia, Trustus Theater, which was founded by his brother Ray Thigpen and sister-in-law Kay Thigpen. Later on, Ron went on to perform both on television and movies.
Ron entered the world of acting in 1968 through an episode of N.Y.P.D. A year later in 1969 he bagged a role in CBS’s opera series Search For Tomorrow, which was Ron’s debut soap. He received fame through Ryan’s Hope, where he played the role of Dr. Roger Coleridge. He joined the soap in 1975 and continued to play Roger till 1989.
Popular Work
The actor began his journey with General Hospital in 1995 and appeared in more than 200 episodes. He portrayed Mike Corbin, the father of Sonny Corinthos. After being on the soap for more than a decade he retired in 2010 though the character of Mike died in 2018 which was then being portrayed by actor Max Gail.
Ron’s other remarkable work includes tv shows Matlock and MacGyver where he performed guest roles. Other than television he has also worked in few movies, two of his renowned works are All The President’s Men where he played Frank Sturgis in 1976 and The Lord Protector.

The Young and The Restless and Days of Our Lives star Billy Warlock wrote a grieving note for his friend and actor Ron Hale with a heavy heart. Billy wrote on X, “we’ve lost another great one, my dear friend has passed away, he was an amazing talent and an even better friend, I will miss you.”
