General Hospital actor Johnny Wactor tragically lost his life when gunmen opened fire on him outside his workplace. This senseless act of violence has left a deep void, and his mother has been fighting for justice ever since. Her tireless efforts are finally paying off. Check out the latest update on Johnny’s case.
Suspect Charged in Wactor’s Death Pleads Guilty
Recently, 18-year-old Leonel Gutierrez, involved in the General Hospital star’s killing, pleaded guilty to charges of attempted robbery and theft. Mind you, he’s one of the four suspects. Unlike typical plea arrangements, Gutierrez entered an open plea. This means there was no pre-arranged deal with the prosecutors regarding his sentence.
The situation leaves his fate entirely up to the judge. Meanwhile, the other three suspects in the case—Robert Isaiah Barceleau, Sergio Estrada, and Frank Olano— pleaded not guilty. Their next court appearance is scheduled for October 16. The judge will decide if there’s enough evidence to take the case to trial. Moreover, Barceleau, the alleged shooter, remains in custody without bail.
As for Estrada and Olano, they have bail set at over $2 million and $1 million, respectively. However, Gutierrez was released on bond after his bail was reduced to $120,000. He now awaits sentencing, with a hearing set for November 1. Additionally, the man could face a maximum of four years and eight months in state prison. He can remain free on bond until his sentencing.
Barceleau faces the most serious charge of murder with the special circumstance of committing the crime during an attempted robbery. He could receive life in prison without parole if convicted. On the other hand, Estrada is also charged with murder but without the special circumstances. Both are facing additional charges of attempted robbery and grand theft while armed.
Plus, Olano is charged as an accessory after the fact and also faces multiple firearms charges. Let’s backtrack a bit to know what went down that night. Johnny Wactor, 37, was killed on May 25 in downtown Los Angeles after confronting three robbers. They were trying to steal his car’s catalytic converter. His death deeply affected the community, sparking rallies and calls for justice.
Wactor played Brando Corbin on General Hospital from 2020 to 2022. The ABC soap honored him in a special tribute episode in June.
