It’s amazing how some love stories feel straight out of a soap script. Well, Home and Away famed Lynne McGranger has one of those; only this time, it’s real life. Before she pops up on The Late Late Show for a chat with Patrick Kielty, fans can’t help but wonder about the man who’s been by her side for over four decades.
A Dinner That Started It All
It turns out Lynne and her partner Paul McWaters met in the most down-to-earth way, over dinner. Back in 1984, the two sat down for a meal, and, as Lynne once shared with New Idea magazine, she invited him over afterward and he just never left! In her words, “I invited him round to my place after dinner and he never went home. Still hasn’t.”
It’s the kind of story that makes you smile; simple, sweet, and real. The two hit it off instantly, and they’ve been together ever since. After 41 years, they’re still not married, but they’re just as solid as ever. Lynne joked years ago that they’d only get married if they ever needed new home appliances, laughing that they’d do it “when we want some white goods” before cheekily adding they were due for a new washing machine!
Family First, Always in Home and Away
Lynne and Paul have one daughter, Clancy, who came along in 1991. And even though the couple never tied the knot themselves, they were front and center when Clancy married her husband Luke in August 2023. Lynne was glowing in a bright pink suit as she watched her daughter walk down the aisle. She later wrote about how special the day was, surrounded by both families and close friends, laughing, eating, dancing, and celebrating the happy couple. She described it as “a perfect, magical day”.
After four decades together, it’s clear Lynne and Paul don’t need a marriage certificate to prove their love. Lynne once said she’s been married before, but it wasn’t the right fit. She even joked that she “didn’t breed well in captivity.”
For her and Paul, marriage just isn’t a big deal. They’re happy the way things are, and that’s all that matters. When asked about it a few years back, Lynne admitted she’s not fussed about planning a wedding. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for all the latest Home and Away news and more stories.
