Sally Dynevor’s character has just taken on one of her most emotional storylines in years in Coronation Street, stepping in to foster children alongside Tim after Mick and Lou’s arrests. But off-screen, fans have noticed that something that’s probably signalling towards Sally’s exit. And with two other long-time legends recently bowing out, questions are swirling. Could Sally be next?
A New Direction for Sally’s Character
Sally has been a familiar face on the street since 1986, ever since that iconic moment when Kevin Webster drove through a puddle and splashed her at the bus stop. From there, viewers saw her fall in love, get married (twice), raise Rosie and Sophie, and eventually move on to a new relationship with Tim Metcalfe. More recently, her character has been stepping into unfamiliar territory. After Mick and Lou were taken into custody, Sally and Tim stepped up to foster the couple’s children.

Speaking about the storyline, Sally Dynevor explained that with her character’s daughters now grown up and out of the house, this is like a whole new chapter in her life. She admitted it’s been difficult but said her character is truly enjoying the experience. But, viewers have noticed that Sally hasn’t been as prominent in recent episodes and it has only added to the speculation.
Sally Responds to Exit Rumours
Addressing the growing talk around her future on the show, Sally made her position clear. In an interview with Woman’s Weekly, she stated that she has no plans to retire. She described herself as someone who enjoys working and added that staying active helps keep her mind sharp. She went on to say that she feels lucky to still be part of the show nearly 40 years later.

Although she’s no longer filming at the same pace she once did, she hasn’t lost her love for the job. In fact, she shared a recent moment that stuck with her, driving into the studio and feeling a genuine smile come across her face as the barrier lifted, because it still felt like home. Sally even said that if the team continues to want her there, she could see herself staying well into her 70s or 80s.
Coronation Street: Others May Have Left, But Sally’s Staying
Her confirmation comes at a time of major change for the soap. Earlier this year, Sue Cleaver, who played Eileen Grimshaw, announced she was stepping away after 25 years. She said turning 60 made her feel it was time for something new, though she left the door open for a possible return.

Helen Worth, who played Gail Platt, also departed in 2024 after an incredible 50 years. When announcing her exit, she spoke warmly about the writers, actors, and crew she worked with, and admitted that it hadn’t quite sunk in that she was leaving.
With both of these longtime stars moving on, it’s no surprise that fans were anxious about Sally’s future. But based on her comments, she has no plans to follow suit. For now, she’s staying right where she is, and that’s good news for Corrie fans everywhere.
