ITV Shuts Down The Merger Buzz!
Rumours have been buzzing that ITV’s two big soaps could merge shortly. They could come together in Salford to cut the production costs, as there will be a highly anticipated crossover episode. However, ITV has refused this idea. A spokesperson of ITV said that they have no plan to team up the two big soaps, Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
Both shows are unique, with one in Manchester and the other in Leeds. So, this will continue for a long time. It’s just a speculation. These rumours twirled after Peter Fincham, who is the former director of the channel, ITV, gave the idea to move away from Emmerdale from Yorkshire so that the production costs could remain low. When the former director made an appearance on the Insiders, which is a TV Podcast, he said something which led people to speculate that the two shows might emerge in future.

Peter Fincham came with fellow producer Jimmy Mulville. He said that Emmerdale is made in Leeds while Coronation Street is made in Manchester. The director added that ITV can combine both Emmerdale and Coronation Street in the same place, as it would save a huge amount of money. Peter Fincham added that though Emmerdale could be set in Yorkshire, the soap could be made in Salford and Manchester as ITV has a bigger setup there.
Meanwhile, Emmerdale is filmed near Leeds and Coronation Street is made at MediaCity in Salford. Earlier, Corrie’s filming took place at Granada Studios located in Manchester.
