Coronation Street’s upcoming crossover with Emmerdale is already being billed as a landmark TV moment, but it’s the behind-the-scenes reality that’s now drawing attention. Actress Julia Goulding, who plays Shona Platt, has openly shared what filming Corriedale was really like and finding something unexpectedly special about the experience.
Julia Goulding Opens Up About Filming Corriedale Crossover
Julia Goulding has spoken candidly about being part of Corriedale, the first-ever crossover between Coronation Streetand Emmerdale. The one-off episode marks a huge milestone for ITV’s soaps and was created to celebrate the new 2026 scheduling format, which will see the two shows air back-to-back in a weekday “soap power hour.” Julia admitted she felt genuinely privileged to be involved, explaining that not every cast member was chosen for the crossover.

When she learned Shona would feature in the episode, she said she was hopeful at first and then “absolutely buzzing” once it was confirmed. For her, the scale and ambition of the storyline immediately made it feel like something far bigger than a typical soap episode. The special centres on a horror multi-vehicle crash on a country road near Hotten, pulling characters from both soaps into the same terrifying event.
Long Night Shoots and Working With the Emmerdale Cast
Filming Corriedale meant weeks of overnight shoots, something Julia admitted sounds worse than it actually felt. She explained that once everyone settled into the routine of working through the night, it stopped feeling like a traditional night shoot. Because the entire cast and crew were on the same schedule, the experience became oddly normal. She acknowledged moments of exhaustion but laughed that sugar and tea kept everyone going.

Despite the physical tiredness, Julia stressed that the atmosphere on set stayed upbeat throughout the shoot. One of the most surprising parts for her was working alongside the Emmerdale cast. Julia said it felt easy and familiar almost immediately, even though the Coronation Street team weren’t in their usual environment. She described the Emmerdale lot as welcoming and supportive.
Julia’s Hopes for Corriedale Viewers
On screen, Shona finds herself in serious danger during the crash alongside David Platt, all while pregnant. The storyline carries extra emotional weight after Shona learns her unborn baby girl has a tumour. And continuing the pregnancy could require high-risk surgery. Julia confirmed that this context made the crash scenes even more intense to film.

Behind the scenes, pretending to be pregnant proved physically demanding. Julia admitted the pregnancy suit was heavy and uncomfortable, especially combined with large prosthetics and heels. She revealed she developed a painful neck after wearing the same costume for weeks.
She explained that the outfit, a wedding dress, was far from practical for night shoots on a crash set. Despite the discomfort, Julia believes viewers will genuinely enjoy the crossover. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
