King Charles and the other royal family members might have dedicated their lives to public service, but that doesn’t mean they don’t make a whopping amount of money. According to reports, the monarch’s main source of income is a tax-payer-funded settlement called the Sovereign Grant, which is paid annually. Keep scrolling to learn more!
The Salaries Of Royal Family Members REVEALED!
Among the things King Charles III inherited when he became Britain’s monarch were a fancy throne, several crowns adorned with (stolen) jewels, multiple castles and a ton of cash. However, as if his inheritance wasn’t enough, the monarch received a staggering amount of 86.3 million English pounds from the 2022-23 Sovereign Grant. According to BBC, this Grant doesn’t go into Charles’ pocket; the majority of it is spent on the upkeep of properties and staff costs.
The royal family conducts over 2,500 events per year, which are paid for by the Grant. Additional planned expenses like the 10-year Buckingham Palace refurbishment plan, which is estimated to cost a total of 369 million British Pounds and will be completed in 2027, according to the National Audit Office, are also paid for by the Grant. The monarch also receives an allowance for personal expenses known as the Privy Purse, which comes from the Duchy of Lancaster.
For the unversed, the Duchy of Lancaster has been passed from monarch to monarch, and the properties it holds are worth an estimated 654 million pounds and generate a huge amount of profit, as per reports. King Charles paid other senior royals from the funds he received from Lancaster. So, if he plans to slim down the monarchy, it could save tax-payer funds and lessen his personal financial loads.
