King Charles and Queen Camilla attended the annual Order of the Garter Service on Monday at St. George’s Chapel. The couple looked all decked up as the traditional celebration commemorated the ancient Order of the Garter.
It celebrates the country’s oldest and most Order of Chivalry still in existence. Like every other royal event, this also consisted of an official dress code but King Charles tweaked his wardrobe this time. Keep scrolling to find the details!
King Charles Made A Few Changes To His Wardrobe At Garter Day Service
King Charles and Queen Camilla looked beautiful together as they wore dark blue velvet robes, the traditional dress for the ceremony. The royal duo walked down the hill from the Berkshire castle’s State Apartments to St George’s Chapel.
For those of you who might not know, Garter Day is a royal family tradition where Ladies and Knights of the Order of the Garter process gather down the hill in white plumed hats and blue velvet robes.
However, this time the monarch has made a small change in his wardrobe. He was seen wearing the Sovereign’s Mantle for the first time. It’s a longer robe, lined with white satin and with the star of the Order sewn on the left shoulder.
This is the first time King Charles has worn this special robe, so this means he didn’t wear it last year, either. Previously, it was reported that His Majesty didn’t want anyone to carry the longer train but that seems to have changed this time.
Speaking of last year’s service, King Charles wore a shorter robe with the order badge embroidered on the left. This is how all other Knights and Ladies of the Order wear the robe. While recollecting the memories, Charles’ late mother, Queen Elizabeth used to wear her Sovereign Mantle every year for the historic moment.
Furthermore, royal family fans know that Kate didn’t attend the service, and neither did Prince Andrew, who is also a member. Prince William accompanied King Charles and Queen Camilla. The royals departed by carriage afterwards and returned to Windsor Castle. For more royal family updates, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily!
