The British Royal Family is currently vacationing in Scotland, and staying at Balmoral Castle. However, news reports reveal that King Charles is not staying with the Royals during the family vacation. Instead, he is staying at his own home, Birkhall, with Queen Camilla by his side. The couple is said to be “recharging their batteries together”.
King Charles is spending most of his vacation time indulging in painting and tending to the lustrous gardens of Birkhall. “The king is sleeping a lot. He is not one to sit around doing nothing, so relaxing for him takes the form of reading, writing, painting, and gardening,” a source close to the royal family told the Daily Beast.
Furthermore, the source revealed that the King is busy tending to his beloved gardens as that is his “happy place”. Charles who has been hit by cancer, has actively been seeking treatment in London. However, the source wasn’t certain if the King was continuing that treatment in Scotland or trying something new while there.
The Birkhall, where the monarch is currently staying, is within the Balmoral Estate. It was previously held by The Queen Mother, but reverted back to the crown after her passing. It was originally gifted to her by King George VI, in 1930. Later, the property was passed down to Charles by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The King is said to relish the Birkhall House a lot more than the main Balmoral, as he finds it more private and intimate. Yet, he participated in a traditional formal welcome to Balmoral Castle last week. However, he has continued to base himself at Birkhal. The rest of the royal family, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, continue to stay at “the big house”.
