Coronation Street fans have followed Bernie Winter through some tough times lately, especially with everything that’s happened to Paul. But away from the screen, something simple and sweet recently got viewers talking, and it wasn’t anything dramatic from the cobbles.
Bernie’s Had a Lot on Her Plate
Since she first appeared in 2019, Bernie’s made a real name for herself. She came in as Gemma and Paul’s long-lost mum, and she didn’t exactly ease her way into Weatherfield. But over time, she’s become one of those characters people look out for. She’s funny and always sticks up for her kids, even when they’re getting on her last nerve.
One of her biggest storylines has been Paul’s Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis. It’s been a heartbreaking watch over the past year or so. Bernie’s been right there with him through it all, and those final scenes in September 2024 when Paul said his goodbyes, honestly, they were hard to watch.
Jane’s Birthday Gets People Talking
Last week, Jane celebrated her birthday, and it caught fans a bit off guard, in a good way. Someone posted in a Corrie fan group, wishing her a happy 57th birthday on July 17, and the comments just took off from there. Plenty of fans were surprised she was 57, with one person saying they didn’t believe it at first. Another said they thought the same thing, while someone else called her an “amazing actress” who looks brilliant for her age.
It was one of those lovely moments where everyone was just full of compliments and kind words. Jane’s been around on TV for years, even before Corrie. A lot of people remember her as Dixie in Casualty, a role she played for a full decade. She’s also popped up in Silent Witness, The Bill, and Doctors. She’s had a proper career in British telly, and clearly, she’s still going strong.
Off-Screen Life of Coronation Street Star Is Just as Lovely
Away from work, Jane shares her life with fellow actress Isobel Middleton. The two got married back in 2015, but they’ve been together for more than 28 years, pretty amazing really. Isobel’s had her fair share of soap roles too.
On Emmerdale, she’s played three different characters over the years, Dr Lane in 2014, a barrister in 2018, and Jean Rawson in 2020. And if you’ve got a good memory, you might also remember her from EastEnders in 2002 when she played Sadie Banks. She even had a small role in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
So between the two of them, Jane and Isobel have popped up in just about every British drama. But right now, it’s Jane’s quiet little birthday moment that’s got fans smiling, and it’s lovely to see her getting the recognition she deserves.
