EastEnders delivers some hard-hitting news this week as the show finally reveals the reason behind Jay Brown’s long absence. The episode on Tuesday, available on BBC iPlayer, reveals the first clear indication since the actor playing the role, Jamie Borthwick, was off the show after the scandal which occurred last year. Scroll down for further details.
Jay’s Story Takes A Sudden Turn
The episode opens with a mention of Jay’s whereabouts. Lauren tells Peter that Jay is away because his granddad Bert is unwell. So he travelled north to look after him. However, this seemed like temporary news as things changed again over Christmas. Lexi learned that Jay wouldn’t return. The young girl found out that he had met someone new, a woman named Elayna, while caring for his grandad.
In Tuesday’s episode, things will be pushed further as Lexi receives an envelope. And when Callum and Billy find her, she is reading a letter with a baby scan attached. One thing is clear: Jay has settled into his new life up north and is expecting a child with his partner, Elayna. The little girl is hit with the news.

Breaking down, she tells Callum she is unable to understand why everything is changing around her. Then, reminding her that she still has a family around her, Callum tries to calm her down. Later, Lexi plans a long-term visit. And she convinces Jay to take her to McClunky’s when she arrives.
Fans React To Jay’s Exit From EastEnders
Fans haven’t quite bought the new direction. A lot of them think that the story is way off from Jay’s deep background. Especially the connection that he had with Lexi and his history with Lola. A lot of viewers took to social media to say that the character explanation just doesn’t fit. “So much for Jay taking on Lexi, at least she has Callum and hopefully Ben will be back,” one user commented.
Another wrote, “Jay would never have left Lexi.” A third user mentioned, “Can’t believe they wrote him out to leave Lexi. Jay would never leave her.” More comments said, “Jay wouldn’t leave Lexi. He is her guardian.” Jameie was removed from the soap as he used a disabled slur on camera on the set of Strictly Come Dancing.

The actor was caught using a derogatory phrase. However, he didn’t give any comment on his exit from the BBC soap. For more EastEnders spoilers and updates, keep following Soap Opera Daily.
