Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Want Their Kids To Keep The Designations!
After stepping out of their royal duties, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry moved to their Montecito home in the USA in 2020. They live there with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Though the couple no longer perform the royal duties, they still hold onto their HRH titles. They use the titles privately and have extended them to their children, too. Both of the couple’s kids have the HRH titles.
The Duke of Sussex wants his children to choose if they want to return to royal life someday. When they get older, if they decide to perform the royal duties, their titles will already be in place. He has kept the options open for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. However, it hasn’t been easy.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle put in a lot of effort to secure the U.K. passports of their kids using not only the name Sussex but also including HRH titles. Archie’s original passport was issued after his birth in 2019. It had the name Archie Mountbatten Windsor on it.
Why Were The Passports Delayed?
However, Charles became the King in 2022 after Queen Elizabeth II’s death. Then Archie and Lilibet became Prince and Princess, respectively. Furthermore, in March 2023, the Duchess of Sussex announced their decision to use titles for their kids. After Lilibet’s christening, the spokesperson said that as the grandfather has become the monarch, the children have the right to get the titles.
However, there was a delay in the issuance of the passports. One of the sources claimed that King Charles didn’t want the children to carry the HRH titles, as once the passports are issued, they are evidence for the children’s royal status.
Furthermore, the couple even considered changing their family name to Spencer to honour Princess Diana. The Duke of Sussex shared this with his uncle, the Earl Charles Spencer, who told him to be careful because of legal issues. Thus, the pair settled on Sussex. The passports were issued after six months instead of the normal waiting time of three weeks.
When the couple’s lawyer wrote to the U.K. Home Office, asking for data subject access, the passports were finally issued; otherwise, the actual reason would have been out. After this, the main question is, will Archie and Lilibet enter the royal life? Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Royal updates!
