Meghan Markle is accused once again! A series of articles about the Duchess of Sussex wasn’t released because it was plagiarized. The British author Mel Elliot claimed that Meghan’s series was so similar to her book that it violated intellectual property rights. Read ahead to learn more about the case!
Mel Elliot Accuses Meghan Markle Of Copying Her Book Content!
Meghan Markle has cancelled her animated series Pearl. It was once part of the multi-million dollar deal with Netflix, but is now facing controversy! The animated series Pearl was announced in 2021. It was set to portray the story of a 12-year-old girl inspired by women in history. The show was one of the first projects the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced through their Netflix deal with Archewell Productions.
British author Mel Elliot published three Pearl Power books between 2014 and 2016. She accused Meghan of copying her children’s book series, Pearl Power, claiming that Meghan’s show is so similar to her work that she had to take legal action.
The author added that the Duchess of Sussex is a feminist who fights for women. However, when she saw the similarity between her book and the show, she felt displeased.
Mel Elliot Revealed That She Wrote A Personal Letter!
The British author even initially wrote a personal letter to Meghan and Netflix, but they didn’t respond. Later, her team sent a formal notice warning Meghan that the show copied her work and violated the copyright rules. The letter mentioned that the similarities between the show and the books can’t be a coincidence.
However, the show was cancelled in May 2022 as Netflix was reducing the shows due to fewer subscribers. Elliott believed that her legal notice was also one of the reasons for the cancellation of Pearl. She disclosed that she remained quiet initially due to her fear of negative comments, but then decided to speak up after Meghan’s projects failed to entertain the audience.
Elliot added that she wanted acknowledgement as Pearl Power was her dream project, and if she brought it forward now, it would look like she copied someone else. The book was popular during its initial run as Ryan Gosling and Kate Winslet purchased copies of the book. She added that Victoria Beckham also purchased it for her daughter.
Meanwhile, the public is aware that Meghan had faced plagiarism allegations earlier, too, when fans of Pamela Anderson accused her of copying the Cooking With Love. She used it for her series, With Love, Meghan. Till now, the Duchess or Netflix hasn’t answered Elliot’s claims. Will they respond publicly? Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Royal updates!
