Royal weddings are always breathtaking, and there’s no room for goof-ups! Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s big day was no exception, and they went through a delicious wedding prep tradition. Before tying the knot on May 19, 2018, the Sussexes were assigned the task of tasting the menu. But the session couldn’t escape the drama, and the Queen had to step in. What happened?
Meghan Markle: Queen Clashed With Meghan Over Wedding Cuisine
At Windsor Castle, Meghan Markle and Harry sat down to taste the sample dishes for their wedding reception. Katie Katie Nicholl mentioned in her book The New Royals that things were fine until Markle gave a strong reaction. The Duchess was tasting one of the vegan dishes and told the caterers that she “could taste the egg.”
After all, the food item was supposed to be vegan and macrobiotic. However, the late Queen Elizabeth sensed the tension in the kitchen and made a sudden appearance. Her argument? She was not happy with the way her future granddaughter-in-law addressed the staff.
“Meghan, in this family, we don’t speak to people like that,” she said. Moreover, she made it clear to Meghan that kindness is always on the menu in her household. While the dish in question made the final reception list remains unclear, there were other scrumptious cuisines.
The royal lunchtime reception at Windsor Castle hosted a long list of 600 guests! The menu included classy canapés like warm asparagus spears, Scottish langoustines, and poached free-range chicken. But that’s not all! There was a “bowl food” filled with peas, mint risotto, roasted pork belly, and a fricassee of chicken with mushrooms.
Charles’ After Party Was Star-Studded!
Meanwhile, the dessert section was pure temptation! Guests were treated to a four-tier lemon and elderflower cake and a sugary spread of macaroons and tartlets. Later that evening, King Charles III threw an after-party at Frogmore House with a tiki-inspired twist.
The “carnival” themed soirée included celebrity guests like Serena Williams, Idris Elba, and Priyanka Chopra. The party had a sit-down dinner and late-night snacks like “dirty burgers.” But the highlight of the evening was the signature cocktail called “When Harry Met Meghan.”
The drink was a blend of rum and ginger, balancing sweetness with spice just like the newlyweds’ relationship!
