Meghan Markle can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to social media! The Duchess of Sussex is only four posts into her new Instagram era, but each one screams, “CONTROVERSIAL!” Her latest clip, in which she gifts a wildfire survivor some Billie Eilish merch, attracted heavy backlash. Social media went berserk, calling Meghan’s post “tone-deaf,” “attention-seeking,“ and “a masterclass in self-promotion.“ Uh-oh. So, what went down?
Meghan Markle: Markle’s Charity Post Backfires
On February 4, Meghan Markle shared a clip of her unboxing a pile of Billie Eilish merchandise. In the clip, she gushes over the package, which includes signed “Hit Me Hard and Soft” vinyl. “I was just told that something arrived that I have been waiting for,“ Markle tells the camera. Mind you, this wasn’t your average merch haul.
Subsequently, the Duchess of Sussex wanted to replace a very special T-shirt belonging to a 15-year-old LA wildfire victim. When she and her mom fled their burning house, she left her favorite Eilish concert tee in the washing machine. Sadly, their house turned to ashes when they returned. Next, Prince Harry and Meghan visited the affected site and met the girl.
Moreover, her story deeply touched Markle, who vowed to help her. The big mistake? Instead of quietly sending a new T-shirt, she went full celebrity mode. Meghan made a voice note and contacted everybody she knew. And guess what? The message reached Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo.

Meghan aka “Disaster Tourist-in-chief”
They worked their magic to ensure the teen got more than just a T-shirt. She received an entire Billie Eilish merch bundle, and the Suits actress documented the entire process. She thanked Billie, Adam, and Behati in her Instagram video. However, the internet wasn’t feeling the warm vibes. In fact, Critics slammed Meghan using a teenager’s tragedy as her PR stunt.
One user called the royal, “Disaster tourist-in-chief“ and described her as “the most tone-deaf and classless celebrity on the planet.“ Meanwhile, another netizen exploded on her for making it all about herself. “There is NO reason for this video except self-promotion. She HAD to take credit and make it public,“ they wrote. But that’s not all!
Hundreds of comments followed suit, with many accusing Markle of caring more about her own image than actually helping. Love or loathe her, but people always talk when Meghan posts.
