Meghan Markle always grabs the spotlight for her royal family strains and her brand. A royal biographer, Ingrid Seward, revealed the reason for Prince Philip’s frustration with Meghan Markle. Keep reading to find out!
Meghan Markle Derailed Philip’s Expectations!
When one marries into a royal family, one has to give up many things. When Prince Philip became the Duke of Edinburgh, he sacrificed his citizenship, navy job and even changed his surname from Philippos Andreou of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderberg-Glücksburg to Mountbatten.
He did this for Queen Elizabeth II. So, he expected a similar commitment from other royal members. Ingrid Seward, who is a royal biographer, didn’t understand why Meghan Markle didn’t follow his example when she married Prince Harry in 2018.
The royal biographer told Sky News that Philip was upset as he gave up his naval career for his wife, so Meghan could have given up acting for Prince Harry. He wanted her to support the Duke of Sussex. Furthermore, when Queen Elizabeth II called a meeting in Sandringham to sort things out after the couple’s announcement to step down from their royal duties, Prince Philip didn’t attend it.
Kate Middleton and Camila were also not a part of it. Furthermore, Meghan Markle also got furious for not attending the meeting as she was in Canada with Prince Archie. When the meeting happened, Philip left the place before everyone got there. He was angry with the couple as he made huge sacrifices and wanted them to do it too.
Prince Philip Sacrificed Many Things To Support His Wife!
Philip faced more struggles when Elizabeth became the Queen after the death of King George VI. He had to leave behind his career to support her. In Tessa Dunlop’s book, Elizabeth and Philip, she wrote that Philip didn’t get the title of Prince Consort like Prince Albert had. He understood that times had changed.
However, when the Queen decided to keep Windsor as the royal family’s name, he got a bit upset. Furthermore, Winston Churchill and Queen Mary wanted it to be Windsor only. To sort out everything, they decided to keep the family name as the House of Edinburgh. However, Philip didn’t care as long as his name was there, but the royal family kept the name Windsor only.
This made him furious, and he said that he was the only man in the country who couldn’t give his name to his children. However, he got rid of the debate and focused on serving the country. Philip supported 800 organisations, with the most famous being the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. He was the longest-serving British Royal consort.
Meanwhile, in 2012, Queen Elizabeth II honoured him during their Diamond Jubilee. In 2021, she left a handwritten note on his coffin. Though it was hidden in the flowers, some of the sources suggest she wrote Lilbet, his nickname for her. Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex separated in 2020 and live in Montecito with their two children. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Royal updates!
