Meghan Markle has admitted she struggled during her time in the royal family and also highlighted one of her ‘American’ habits that set her apart from the rest of the institution. The Duchess Opens Up About Her First Meeting With Royals
Meghan first met Harry in 2016, and after a brief stint, she met his loved ones, which included Prince William and Princess Kate. In her Netflix show, Harry & Meghan, she described their first meeting as surprising for one specific reason.
While recalling the encounter, Meghan Markle said, “When Will and Kate came over, and I met her for the first time, they came over for dinner. I remember I was in ripped jeans, and I was barefoot. I was a hugger. I’ve always been a hugger, I didn’t realise that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.”

Furthermore, she claimed that she understood very quickly that formality on the outside also carried through on the inside, which was shocking. Along with Meghan, her husband also echoed her sentiments in his tell-all memoir, Spare. In his book, Harry claimed that his brother found Meghan’s hug uncomfortable.
He penned, “I introduced Meg, who leaned in and gave him a hug, which completely freaked him out. “He recoiled. Willy didn’t hug many strangers. Whereas Meg hugged most strangers. The moment was a classic collision of cultures, like flashlight-torch, which felt to me both funny and charming. Later, however, looking back, I wondered if it was more than that. Maybe Willy expected Meg to curtsy?”

However, these claims by the Duke and Duchess have caught attention by those close to William and Kate. The royal couple has always been seen hugging well-wishers on numerous occasions while attending to royal duties.
After the release of Sussexes’ Netflix show, a close friend of Kate told PEOPLE Magazine, “Kate’s a big hugger. She is warm and friendly and greets everyone with a big hug and kiss. It comes naturally to her to be like that.” We really hope that Harry and William find a way to work through their issues, or else people will always feed on their family’s misery.
