It’s been one freaking year since Miley Cyrus released her super catchy and mega-successful empowerment anthem “Flowers.” The 31-year-old singer took to Instagram on Saturday to mark the occasion. She shared a couple of cool black-and-white snaps of herself with, you guessed it, a flower. In one pic, she’s holding the flowers like a girl boss while wearing a floral crown in another. Check them out!
Alongside the pics, Cyrus shared a brief, sweet message about the song. She wrote, “One year ago today ‘Flowers’ started making people happy & that makes me happy.” Additionally, Miley signed off with, “Love you. Thank you. XO MC.” By the way, ‘Flowers’ is all about Cyrus doing her own thing, and boy did it empower us women!
The track belts out lines like “I can buy myself flowers” and “I can take myself dancing.” Additionally, the track was the lead single for Miley’s latest album, “Endless Summer Vacation.” The Wrecking Ball hitmaker called her album a love letter to Los Angeles. Now, let’s talk about ‘Flowers,’ which earned Miley her first Grammy Award.
After it dropped, the track became a huge hit, spending a whopping eight weeks at the top of the U.S. Billboard charts. It also jumped to the number one spot on Spotify’s charts, even breaking a record along the way. In addition, the song became the most-streamed song in a single week in the app’s history. All thanks to Smilers, who have loved the singer since her ‘Hannah Montana’ Days.
And did you know that ‘Flowers’ beat out the previous record-holder, BTS’ “Butter.” Cyrus was quick to thank Spotify and her “amazing fans” for their support. Interestingly, some fans thought “Flowers” hinted at Cyrus’ past relationship with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth. However, Cyrus dismissed those rumors, saying she didn’t need to trick her audience.
In an interview with British Vogue last June, Cyrus disclosed that the upbeat song almost took a different direction. “I wrote it in a really different way.” She explained it by stating the original chorus. “I can buy myself flowers, write my name in the sand, but I CAN’T love me better than you can.” Additionally, Miley noted that it sounded like a track from the 50s.
She added, “The saddest song. Like, ‘Sure, I can be my own lover, but you’re so much better.” At last, Cyrus announced that ‘Flowers’ supports the notion – Fake it till you make it! “Which I’m a big fan of,” the singer added. The pop icon never ceases to amaze us with her music and rawness, right? Anyway, if you want more exclusive updates on Miley, make sure to check out Soap Opera Daily.
