Carl Webster’s been in Coronation Street for just a few months, but he’s already causing more chaos than most do in years. There’s tension, secrets, and now a bit of danger creeping into the picture, and the Webster family might not be ready for what’s coming.
Carl’s Close Call With Abi
You’ll remember Carl first popped up in April, when he got into a minor bump in Frescho’s car park. Turns out, the woman he argued with, Abi, was actually his sister-in-law.
They didn’t realise at the time, and despite Abi giving him a slap, Carl couldn’t help but flirt with her. He even asked her out, bold as anything. But Abi quickly shut it down, reminding him she’s married and Kevin was dealing with cancer.
Still, you could tell there was a spark. Not long after, Carl turned up at the Bistro, and surprise, surprise, Kevin and Debbie were thrilled to see him. Abi? Not so much. Since then, it’s been messy. Carl and Abi keep crossing paths, and it’s clear staying away from each other is easier said than done.
All the while, Kevin’s been pretending his cancer isn’t too serious. But fans know he’s not being honest. He’s told Abi the cancer hasn’t spread, but the treatment isn’t even working, and he needs more. That little lie is about to blow up.
Carl’s Secret Deal & Kevin’s Collapse in Coronation Street
Things get a lot more tangled in upcoming scenes. Debbie notices Carl’s walking around with a split lip and bruises and immediately clocks that something’s not right. She asks him outright how much money he needs, clearly, she knows he’s in trouble.
Meanwhile, Abi wants to go with Kevin to chemo, but Tyrone tries to stall her. While that’s going on, Kevin sneaks off and ends up spotting Carl chatting quietly with Fiona in the ginnel. They’re clearly up to something.
Carl tells Fiona about this flashy car he’s working on and says if she nicks it in the next hour, they’ll split the profit. Fiona does just that. Kevin sees her speeding off and tries to chase her, but ends up falling ill right there. Luckily, Glenda’s nearby and insists on taking him to the hospital.
Once there, Kevin plays it down and says he’s fine. But then things take a turn, Kevin tells Carl he saw him with the woman who stole the car. Carl doesn’t back down. Instead, he says they both have explaining to do because he’s spoken to Kevin’s doctor and knows he’s been lying about his cancer all along.
What Carl’s Really Running From
Now here’s where it gets even more serious. Actor Jonathan Howard, who plays Carl, has spilled that his character is actually running from something big. He said Carl’s under a lot of pressure because he owes money to some really dangerous people.
And coming to Weatherfield was partly about checking on Kevin but also a way to get out of Germany and away from the people after him. Jonathan said Carl didn’t think they’d follow him to England, but now that they have, it’s a huge worry. Carl’s not a violent guy, but he’s definitely desperate. Jonathan said Carl wouldn’t hurt anyone, but he’ll definitely take advantage of any situation that might help him pay off his debts.
And yes, he knows Abi’s got money, so don’t be surprised if he tries to get help from her, one way or another. He also admitted Carl’s the type to do something dodgy, like a fake MOT or getting involved in something shady, as long as it doesn’t cross the line into hurting people.
