Have you ever wondered if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could become the UK’s next King and Queen? Harry’s long-standing crisis with his family has become more emotional. He’s no longer hiding how he feels and gets real about his complicated relationship with his father. Harry’s take? All the fighting just isn’t worth it anymore. Will there ever come a day when Charles’ younger son will take the throne?
Prince Harry: The Duke Wants to Mend Fences
Prince Harry has told the BBC that he wants to make peace with his family, but his father doesn’t speak to him. He revealed, “I don’t know how much longer my father has, but he won’t speak to me because of security stuff.” Yet reconciliation is all the Duke wants, but royal experts are still finding it a bit fishy.
After all, it came just after he lost his legal appeal to get taxpayer-funded security while visiting the UK. Meanwhile, Harry, enjoying the Californian life with his small family, stands fifth in line to the throne. He admits that the never-ending issue over royal protection has been a huge wedge between him and the King.
Still, the Sussex royal has “forgiven” his family and doesn’t want to keep throwing shade. He realizes King Charles’ health remains dicey, and he doesn’t want to make his last days miserable. In case you missed it, Buckingham Palace confirmed last February that the British Monarch had been diagnosed with cancer.
Will the Sussexes Become the UK’s Next King & Queen?
Subsequently, it has sparked a big debate on who will ascend the throne. It won’t be Harry since the crown belongs to Prince William, Charles’s eldest son and the current Prince of Wales. He will become King, with his wife Catherine stepping into the Queen Consort role after Charles’ reign is over.
To be more precise, Kate will become Queen Regnant because she doesn’t have royal blood. Royal succession doesn’t run on popularity but is based on centuries-old acts. These include the Act of Settlement (1701) and the Succession to the Crown Act (2013). In 2013, a new law struck down the “boys before girls” rule regarding succession.
In addition, the act allowed royal family members to marry Catholics without losing their spot in line. Also, any change to these rules would need all 15 Commonwealth nations to agree. For now, Harry and Meghan will have to stop dreaming because Buckingham Palace isn’t calling anytime soon. In the meantime, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for your daily fix of Prince Harry news.
