Prince Harry Opened Up About His Father’s Chilling Words
Prince Harry who has been snubbed by his own father several times amidst the internal family rift, spoke about a heartbreaking moment. The Duke opened up about the moments he experienced after his mother, Diana passed away.
At the tender age of 12, Harry was told by King Charles that his mother was killed in a fatal crash on August 31, 1997. Even though Duke thought that his mother would be okay, a few words from Charles got stuck in his memory, ‘like darts in a board.’

Furthermore, in his memoir “Spare”, Harry wrote about how his father sat on the edge of his bed, put his hand on his knee, and broke the news to him. He said Charles “looked at me in a funny way, a way he’d never looked at me before” when he told him the devastating news. While waiting for an update on his mother, Harry still believed his mother would be okay.

Harry was thinking, “She’s been taken to hospital, they’ll fix her head, and we’ll go and see her. Today. Tonight at the latest.” However, the young kid soon realised that wasn’t the case and the news broke that his mum had passed. While sharing the phrases of his father, he then said, “They tried, darling boy. I’m afraid she didn’t make it.”
These are the phrases that Harry vividly remembers and explains as the reason why everything stopped for him. “None of what I said to him then remains in my memory,” he stressed, adding that he didn’t shed a single tear.
The Duke of Sussex later revealed that he was given a gift by his aunt, Sarah Ferguson shortly after Diana’s death. She gave him a tiny blue box which had a lock of his mother’s hair. Harry explained how Sarah had a reason for cutting his mother’s hair when she was in Paris.
