Prince William and Kate Middleton’s relationship wasn’t always a fairy tale. The Prince and Princess of Wales, who now seem to be one of the most stable and loving couples, have gone through their fair share of hurdles while they were dating.
The pair has now been married for 13 years and were college sweethearts at the University of St.Andrews, where their romance first blossomed. In Robert Jobson’s new biography, ‘Catherine, The Princess of Wales’, the royal author reflects back on William and Kate’s romance after they graduated in 2005. According to the book, the Prince would visit his girlfriend at her family home every Friday while undergoing military training at Sandhurst. As for Kate, she attended William’s military graduation in 2006, which highlighted the seriousness of their budding relationship and set the stage for potential engagement.
Despite all the media attention on them, “Catherine knew William wasn’t in any hurry to propose, and the truth is she was prepared to wait until he was ready. After all, they were in love — weren’t they?” Jobson writes, according to an excerpt published by Daily Mail on July 28.

However, in 2006, the cracks in their love story started to appear when William cancelled to join the Middletons for their New Year’s celebration in Dundee. Even though there were rumours of a royal engagement, Kate had sensed something was off.
Soon after, the now future King at that time called Kate to break up, saying that they needed a ‘bit of space’ and to ‘find our own way.’ In an extract printed in the Daily Mail, Jobson wrote that William confessed that, “He was unable to promise her marriage. In an emotionally charged 30-minute conversation, they both acknowledged they were on ‘different pages’.
It was a devastating blow to Catherine, who felt doubly let down at being dumped over the phone. Though it wasn’t the first time William had called time on their relationship, it felt final.” Who knew Prince William would have so much in common with Joe Jonas, we thought he was a Taylor Swift fan!!

The heartbreaking call reportedly left the now mom-of-three devastated, and she questioned their entire relationship. She has allegedly ‘distraught’ and resorted to hiding away from the outside world.
Her mom took care of her daughter by taking her for a break in Dublin while William headed for clubs with friends. It seems like Prince William was having second thoughts, and the royal couple reunited at a ‘Freakin Naughty’-themed costume party hated by jockey Sam Waley-Cohen.
While recalling this incident, Jobson writes, “She’d arrived dressed as a nurse, and William had made a beeline for her. They then spent the first part of the evening deep in conversation before hitting the dance floor, where they ended up kissing.” Their romance took a hit from there, and they eventually moved in together and got engaged in 2010.
