Are Prince William and Princess Kate headed for a divorce? The speculation of their split had been making rounds a few months ago, but none of it rang true. However, the future King has ruffled a feather once again by hiring his late mother, Princess Diana’s divorce lawyers. What’s going on behind those gilded doors of Buckingham Palace? Read on.
Prince William: William Hires Charles’ Beloved Firm
Reports suggest that Prince William has officially fired Harbottle & Lewis, the firm King Charles relied on for years. Instead, he brought in Mishcon de Reya, that stood by Diana during her split from Charles in 1996. Moreover, insiders told the Daily Mail that William wants to pave his own way.
“He did not want to continue using his father’s lawyers. It’s as simple as that,” they added. While the Prince of Wales remains an obedient son to Charles, he won’t stay under the King’s shadow forever. No matter how bold this may seem, people are raising eyebrows as it’s “the talk of legal circles.“
From palace corridors to law offices in London, everyone’s trying to predict the aftermath of this overhaul. One of William’s friends told the British tabloid, “William wants to do things differently from his father.“ Additionally, he wants the public to know about it as well.
William Wants to Do Things Differently
Even the royal palace acknowledged William’s choice not to follow in his father’s footsteps. In addition, royal expert Richard Eden explained why the royal “branched out“ from the Monarch’s go-to legal advisers. “He is more than willing to shake up the status quo behind palace doors as well,“ he said. The biggest silver lining?
The Wales royals are still going strong, and all the divorce rumors can be put to rest. Meanwhile, Harbottle & Lewis isn’t happy with William’s decision to ditch them, given its long association with the royal family. The firm has always looked after the monarchy in tough times, including that notorious 2006 phone-hacking scandal.
Over at Mishcon de Reya, it’s celebration time! Anthony Julius, the firm’s deputy chairman and Diana’s legal rep, has worked with her son before. He was a founding trustee of the Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. It’s indeed a full-circle moment for Julius. Don’t miss out on more Prince William updates at Soap Opera daily.
