Prince William is back at work after celebrating his 42nd birthday by attending Taylor Swift’s concert in London. And now, the Prince of Wales has taken up the state responsibilities and is leading the royal welcome. He kicked off the Emperor and Empress of Japan’s state visit to the UK on Tuesday by welcoming them at their hotel in London on behalf of his father, King Charles.
He then escorted them to the Horse Guards Parade to be formally welcomed by the King and Queen as they embarked on a three-day visit to the UK. William looked all dapper in a black morning suit and red tie while he shook hands with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako during the morning meeting on Tuesday. The trio then exchanged pleasantries and posed for pictures before going to the Ceremonial Welcome.
Prince William had previously led a royal welcome with his wife, Kate, in November of last year when the President of South Korea visited the UK. However, this time, the Prince of Wales seems to be handling everything solo as his wife continues her cancer treatment.
While meeting the dignitaries, King Charles and Queen Camilla met with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and military top brass on their arrival before welcoming the prominent guests at the Royal Pavilion. After shaking hands, Charles and Emperor Naruhito had a fun chit-chat session. As per reports, the Emperor and Empress of Japan will include military pageantry in London, followed by a carriage ride through the city back to Buckingham Palace, where they will have lunch and go through items in the Royal collection.

In addition, they are scheduled to visit Westminster Abbey to pay their respects at the grave of the unknown warrior. The royal family will then meet with the dignitaries at night for a state banquet at the Palace especially held in their honour. They will host a diplomatic dinner, which will call for a glamorous dress code, and royal women wear tiaras, which means we might see Queen Camilla in a sparkling headpiece at the event.
Other senior royal family members, including Prince Edward and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, are also expected to attend the event.
