Princess Kate Middleton just told the world why she and Prince William ditched London for Windsor. She let this information slip while mingling with soldiers from the Irish Guards at their St. Patrick’s Day parade. Kate attended the event at the Wellington Barracks in London, a place that once was her home. So, why did she move out?
Princess Kate: Why Did the Wales Royals Leave London?
Princess Kate and her husband made the decision while keeping family and royal responsibilities in mind. But there’s one more reason for her to say goodbye to the Square Mile. “We are in Windsor at the moment. We were in London but moved there for more green space,” she revealed.
Raising three young kids, George, Charlotte, and Louis, in a buzzing metropolis like London was a big no. In 2022, the Wales family left the luxurious life of Kensington Palace and moved to Adelaide Cottage. The place is a historic gem located inside the 4,800-acre Windsor Great Park. Moreover, it’s close to Windsor Castle. Happy coincidence?
Royal biographer Robert Jobson revealed in his book Catherine, Princess of Wales why Kate wanted to move closer to Windsor. It was due to William’s precious bond with the late Queen Elizabeth. “As a future king, it was important for him to be geographically closer to the late Queen in her final months.”
After all, William had to support both her and his father. It made a real difference,’ Jobson revealed. The Queen, who passed away in September 2022 at age 96, remained at Windsor Castle during her final years. But wait, there’s more! The Windsor move also brought Kate and her family closer to her parents.
Kate Loves the Nature
Carole and Michael Middleton, who still live in Bucklebury, Berkshire, are a huge part of their grandchildren’s lives. In fact, they were Kate’s pillar of strength when she underwent abdominal surgery in early 2024. Additionally, they were right by their daughter’s side when the future Queen was diagnosed with cancer.
Through her health battle, Middleton got one with nature. She even recorded her cancer announcement video in the gardens of Windsor Castle. Then, she posted another snap beneath a tree in Windsor to update everyone on her health. Furthermore, the final leg of her chemotherapy treatment in September was also spent outdoors.
The Wales royals took their kids to their countryside retreat in Norfolk, Anmer Hall, to celebrate. In a nutshell, Kate and William’s big move was not all about escaping the chaotic city life. They wanted to make the most of every moment together. Tune in to Soap Opera Daily for more updates on Princess Kate and other royals. What do you think about Kate and William’s big move?
