Queen Camilla recently spent a lovely afternoon with a young boy this week after he missed a recent engagement with the royal. According to reports, Tony Hudgell from West Malling, Kent was on his way to the Buckingham Palace last month when he and his family got stuck in traffic. Due to this, the 9-year-old was unable to attend the King’s royal garden party. However, the Queen knew exactly how to make it up to the boy. Read on to know more!
Last week, the senior royal hosted a very special private garden party at Buckingham Palace for Tony Hudgell. The 9-year-old founded a charity with his adoptive family after surviving abuse from his birth parents. He was unable to attend a formal garden party due to traffic in London.
On the same day, Tony’s mother, Paula Hudgell took to X and wrote, ‘Stuck on M20 for the last 2 hours. Won’t be making the King’s Garden Party.’ In response, the royal family’s official account said, “Sorry to hear this, Tony! We were looking forward to seeing you too. Fancy trying again another day? Leave it with us…”
Not long after, Tony, who is a double amputee attended the special party hosted by the Queen on 26th June. He was accompanied by Lyla O’Donovan, a 12-year-old who raised funds for children’s charities while being treated for a rare brain tumour. Upon arrival, the families witnessed the Changing of the Guard before joining Queen Camilla in the garden’s Summer House.

Later, they took a tour of Buckingham Palace’s Royal Mews. At the party, Queen Camilla awarded Tony with the British Empire Medal, following his nomination in the 2024 New Year Honours. In addition, he became the youngest-ever recipient of this Honour.
As for Lyla, she was awarded the Inspirational Service Child of the Year by North Yorkshire Council at the first-ever Service Children’s Awards last month. Both the kids thanked Camilla and were grateful for the opportunity.
Lyla said, “Everyone made us feel so comfortable and made me feel super special, so thank you for this. A massive thank you to everyone involved yesterday; we are so grateful and feel so lucky to have been invited.”
Kudos to Queen Camilla for supporting these little kids and their aspirations. Stay glued to Soap Opera Daily for more such insightful updates on the Royal Family! What do you think about Camilla’s gesture? Tell us in the comments.
