Queen Elizabeth Approved The Royal Wedding With An Exception!
Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot on April 29, 2011. Queen Elizabeth was overjoyed on the wedding day. However, there was one thing she thought could have been better. The monarch told Queen Camilla that she wanted Prince William and Kate Middleton to ride in a smaller carriage procession. They married at Westminster Abbey and drove to Buckingham Palace after the ceremony.

There they rode through the streets of London and waved at the well-wishers. Meanwhile, Kate Middleton and Prince William chose the 1902 State Landau carriage. It was earlier used on July 29, 1981, on the wedding day of Charles and Diana. The carriage was originally constructed for the 1902 coronation of King Edward VII. It was decorated with Crimson satin and lace, while door panels featured the royal arms.
So, the Prince and Princess of Wales chose the specific carriage due to unpredictable weather. If it had rained on their wedding day, they would have chosen a glass coach. Though it is not clear which carriage Queen Elizabeth would have preferred for the couple, it could have been the Glass Coach. The State Landau Carriage contains a flexible leather hood. But it is not strong enough to protect riders from rain.
Queen Said The Wedding Went Very Well!
When William and Kate entered the carriage, Queen Elizabeth turned to Camilla and spoke about the carriage. According to Tina Lannin, who is a professional lip reader, the Queen said that she wanted the couple to take the small carriage.
Meanwhile, she did not openly share her personal opinion about the pair’s choice of carriage. Instead, she politely said that the wedding went very well. The Queen agreed.

Meanwhile, the Queen was happier with William and Kate’s wedding than with Charles and Diana’s. One reason was that Kate was 29 years old while Diana was 20 years old. They had known each other for a decade. But Charles and Diana had spent much less time together before marrying.
A royal biographer, Tina, said that Queen Elizabeth felt special satisfaction at their wedding. She told Philip that it was excellent. Meanwhile, on William and Kate’s wedding day, the Queen was more emotional than expected. She was satisfied that the checkered marriages were secure.
