Coronation Street viewers were given a little dose of nostalgia this week when one of the show’s popular stars posted a heartwarming selfie online. The smiley-faced picture sent floods of recognition and happy memories back to the fans who had watched them work their way up. So what made the selfie so special? There‘s a shared history here that’s not limited to the Corrie universe.
From Coronation Street Halls to Rovers Return
Coronation Street’s Tony Maudsley, who has played lovable George Shuttleworth on the show, turned to Instagram to post a reunion selfie with co-stars Amy Robbins and Natalie Anderson. But this wasn’t simply a Corrie cast reunion—the picture was a full-circle moment for the three stars who had previously shared screen space on another popular ITV drama: The Royal.
The trio last appeared together nearly two decades ago in the popular medical drama, where they crossed paths in 2007. Maudsley played Jimmy Beatie during a short stint. Robbins, who now portrays Christina Boyd on Corrie, was a constant on the show. The actor was seen as Dr Jill Weatherill throughout its eight-season run. Anderson, now Corrie’s latest arrival as Danielle Silverton, portrayed nurse Stella Davenport in The Royal from seasons four through seven.
Posting the photo, Maudsley captioned, “When shall we three meet again?” He added that it had been 18 years since they had all been together on The Royal and how wonderful it felt to have “a little reunion on the cobbles” with Robbins and Anderson.
Viewers swiftly responded with excitement. One viewer said that they had rewatched the entire series of The Royal and enjoyed every second. At the same time, another thanked the poster for the update, stating that it helped them to put Anderson‘s familiar face somewhere.
New Faces, Old Chemistry
While Robbins and Maudsley have already secured their places on the Corrie set, Natalie Anderson is the new one. She has also played in Emmerdale and Hollyoaks. But her current role as Danielle Silverton has captured viewers‘ attention.
When talking about her character, Anderson said Danielle would be “judgmental from the off.” She described the character as full of complicated attributes that influenced how she presented herself.
She revealed how Danielle instantly has a bad vibe about Sarah Platt. The actor feels something is wrong with Sarah’s relationship with Theo Silverton. “Danielle is a very judgmental character—she’s always sizing people up,” Anderson stated. She added that the depth that comes with playing someone so multifaceted is precisely why she loves the role so much.
It’s a rare pleasure to find actors reunited after decades, particularly when their lives bring them together once more in a show as iconic as Coronation Street. We will keep you posted about all the soap updates on Soap Opera Daily. Stay tuned!
