The man behind the formation of our beloved boyband, One Direction, is on the lookout! Simon Cowell is hunting down a new band that can match the English-Irish pop band’s worldwide success. The famous television personality is literally “praying” to find similar raw talent. To achieve this feat, Cowell is starting a nationwide search to replicate the magic he found with guys from One Direction!
Simon brought Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne together in 2010 on The X Factor. However, the music mogul opts for a more personal approach this time. It will be totally different from his usual big-audience auditions seen on shows like The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent. Interestingly, this crazy journey will be filmed for a potential future documentary series.
Simon admitted to the PA news agency that he prayed for a band like 1D, which makes stellar records like theirs. “There are so many factors involved in making a band successful all over the world,” he added. Additionally, the record executive emphasized the authenticity required in the process, stating that nobody can fake it. Despite Simon taking the auditions, most things depend on the individuals. “I’m not someone who says dress like this, say this, do this, it is just not my style.”
Simon revealed he never did that with the popular boy band. Recognizing 1D as “lightning in a bottle,” he hopes to find the next big thing. However, Cowell is quite concerned about the recent plunge in UK artists making it big globally. He called it “SHOCKING!” Nevertheless, Simon’s not the one to yield so easily- he took a hands-on approach ahead of the auditions! The entrepreneur wore dungarees and put up a billboard in London.
It read, “Simon needs you. Future megastars wanted for a new boy band. No time wasters.” In addition, he explained that bands don’t just show up at your door and that Every generation deserves a megastar boyband. He believed there’s been no one as successful as One Direction in over fourteen years. However, “the industry tends to focus on solo artists — so it usually takes someone from outside to put a group together.”
The TV personality also highlighted how bands can be used as a launching pad for solo artists. And let’s not overlook the fun involved in touring across the globe! In his new approach, Simon bypasses pre-casting, opting instead for first-come, first-served auditions. He wants to showcase the reality of the audition process, which nobody has done before. But here’s the kicker- Cowell is not interested in TikTok hopefuls.
He would embrace folks showing up and explain why they want to do this. According to the former BGT judge, posting clips from the bedroom will not get anyone a global career. They should buy a lottery ticket instead because the market is crowded, and posting videos isn’t enough. Meanwhile, Simon will be joined by the trusted colleagues from his record and TV company, pivotal in One Direction’s success.
The process is being documented by Box To Box Films, producers of Formula 1: Drive To Survive. Simon hopes for success but says, “If it doesn’t work, at least I tried. He concluded, “I’m really passionate about this. And I always always believed that there are gems out there waiting to be discovered.” Stay tuned to find out if Simon can replicate the magic again!
