It’s been almost nine years since One Direction disbanded, and their fans still wish to see them back together. In recent years, news fueled hope in fans’ hearts, hinting at One Direction Reunion. While Harry Styles claimed he is up for the reunion, Simon Cowell is here to shatter your hope. The X Factor creator thinks this will never happen.
Simon Cowell recently appeared on The Diary of a CEO podcast, telling Steven Bartlett that he doubted this reunion would happen. While it was enough to break 1D fans’ hearts, Simon had more cruel things to tell. While sharing his views on One Direction, Simon confessed that he regretted not owning the group’s name.
It was his biggest regret ever. He continued that he should have owned the name, as the problem arises when you let the artists own their name. Simon Cowell stated, “When you give an artist the name, it’s not yours.” And it was his biggest regret. If he could have had the name, he would have come up with animation or whatever came best for the band.
However, since the band members owe the name One Direction, it became difficult to keep the band afloat. Besides this, Simon Cowell also discussed the challenges 1D would have never faced if Cowell had owned the name. He shared in the interview that when one of the band members didn’t want to tour for whatever reason, it could stop others from touring. So, if he had owned the name, the problem would have never arisen.
He even called this a naive decision. He admitted that he thinks about the situation and doesn’t want to repeat it. Well, fans should consider Simon’s words. After all, he and Nicole Scherzinger were the ones who originally formed the boy band after watching the boys’ individual auditions back in 2010.
In fact, Simon Cowell also signed the boy band with his old record label, Synco Music. While Simon Cowell regrets his decision, he mockingly warns the boys, now turned into men, that he might snatch the name back from them. He mocks, “If you’re listening, I’ll buy it back from you.”
While Simon Cowell has enough of the regret, he is now ready to introduce another boy band. Open auditions for a new boyband are set to begin this summer in the UK for a new docuseries with Box to Box Films. While Simon is eager to launch new faces, he doubts whether anyone will show up.
