Earlier this week, General Hospital fans woke up to a shocker when news broke out that the ABC soap was letting Kelly go after two long and successful decades of work!
Kelly Monaco rose to prominence for her role as Sam McCall on GH. A character that she superbly played for 21 years. She was part of some very iconic storylines and some very memorable couples. However, the ABC sudser is now letting the actress go. Early reports suggest that it is a “creative decision”, and Sam will perhaps be killed off this Fall.
If Kelly Monaco does exit GH, then she will certainly be free to take up work on other soaps. However, it appears that hopping on to The Young and The Restless will be a win-win situation for both, the actress and the soap. Let us explain why! Those who have been following Daytime for decades might remember that stars Kelly Monaco and Jason Thompson were quite an adorable on-screen couple once upon a time.
Yep! Ions ago, when Jason Thompson played Dr. Patrick Drake on GH, he and Sam fell in love and even got engaged. However, later, Jason left the soap. But Y&R now has the extraordinary opportunity to take advantage of that nostalgia and yet add some freshness to the CBS sudser!

The fans aren’t very happy with how Billy Abbott’s track is progressing on the soap currently. They yearn to see him break free of the Chelsea-Adam drama and do something different. Thus, if the makers reel Kelly Monaco in as a fresh character on Y&R, she can be paired up with Jason’s Billy Abbott! We already know that they have chemistry, so we can assume that they’ll be a hit together!
In fact, some zealous Y&R fans even have a debut track in mind! Kelly’s character could enter the soap as Audra Charles’s sister! Since soaps love to have new characters somehow related to existing characters, we can see this working one hundred percent! If they do this, they have to do it the right way. Audra is not a viable option. Her storyline seems short lived.
