Daytime veteran – Christopher Cousins recently joined the cast of CBS giant The Young and The Restless as Dr. Alan Laurent. An old time friend of Ashley’s from Paris. He has arrived in GC on Traci’s call, due to Ashley’s worsening mental health crisis.
Only a couple episodes in, and Christopher has already managed to win fan hearts with his character- Alan. Now, he spills the tea on how exactly he landed the role on The Young and The Restless. “I’ve got a lot of personal stuff to tend to in Los Angeles,” he told Soap Opera Digest in a recent chat.
Furthermore, he shared that his children are currently in the process of moving out of the house. His daughter is 21, and son is 17. “Once they’re gone we’ll sell the house and I’ll find a place in the mountains,” he divulged. Christopher shared that he already told his agents that he can’t leave town for work this summer. And miraculously this Y&R job fell in his lap.
The Young and The Restless newbie might be new to the soap, but not to the genre. Many fans remember him all too well as ex-Dr. Kirk on General Hospital, and ex-Cain on One Life To live, among many other popular gigs.
Christopher has been popular for playing English characters all through his career, perhaps due to his impeccable Brit accent. “She can go to any town or country in the world and imitate their accent like a myna bird. We just have an ear for accents,” The Young and The Restless actor joked.
Interestingly, Christopher divulged that his appearance and accent seems so European / British to people that he has lost two acting jobs that required him to look American. That’s why he was surprised when The Young and The Restless did not require him to use a European accent.
At first, he thought he’d be required to be French. But that’s not the case, the actor divulged. In the soap, I am “an American living in Paris,” Christopher points out. “I come to Genoa City to help my friend Ashley.” Speaking about his rapport with Ashley, Christopher spills that Alan has feelings for Ashley but suppresses them so they don’t come in the way.
The Young and The Restless actor thinks that Alan is going to be a great support to his friend in coming to terms with her heartbreak, as well as healing from her mental health disorder. However, there are still chances that those suppressed feelings could come out!
Maybe as the story progresses we’ll see some sparks flying between them! What do you say? Would you like to see a romance track between Alan and Ashley? Tell us in the comments. Meanwhile, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more The Young and The Restless spoilers.
