The Young and The Restless Michelle Stafford has had a great year on the soap as a performer. She got to play so many different shades of emotions through Phyllis, and might we add, she did a phenomenal job at it! So much so, that it helped her bag the Daytime Emmy for the best performance as a lead actress!
However, amid the joy, an uncalled-for controversy reared its head. The Young and The Restless suffered a classic case of quote misinterpretation! During her award acceptance speech, Michelle thanked Y&R Head Writer and Executive Producer Josh Griffith for letting her cry in his office.

This caused a stir in social media, where fans misinterpreted that she perhaps “cried” to bring in a certain storyline or rewrite the existing one for her. But that’s not the case AT ALL. To settle the smoke once and for all, The Young and The Restless star decided to clarify her remark through Instagram.

“I lost a parent recently. It was devastating,” Michelle Stafford wrote on her Instagram. “But you must carry on with life. You go to work. You take care of your kids….And life does in fact move on.” she continued. The Young and The Restless star clarified that she usually lets such controversies go. But she chose to open up because it could help others who are grieving.
Further explaining the “crying”, Michelle shared that she showed up at Griffith’s office for a meeting that was pre-scheduled. It had only been 10 days since the loss, but she still showed up. The Young and The Restless star explained that she was going over the storyline but she couldn’t control her emotions when the part about Phyllis’ relationship with her kids came up.

Michelle ended up crying profusely in the office and then apologized when she was more composed. But Griffith was kind towards her and responded in the most humane manner. Well, we are so glad that Michelle opened up about her grief and said it like it is. But she is not the only one to speak out.
She even got some support from her The Young and The Restless co-star Colleen Zenk. The stellar performer who is currently portraying Jordan on the soap cheered for Michelle out loud! “You know how I feel about you. I am beyond thrilled for your Emmy win,” Colleen congratulated her.
Then moving on to the controversy and Michelle’s response, The Young and The Restless star wrote,” You are one of a kind. And all human.” Furthermore, she added that Michelle is “enormously giving and talented” Colleen pointed that Michelle’s statement was a “beautiful response.”

Moreover, The Young and The Restless star admitted that she wished she had the strength to have written something similar many times. “love you… CZ, she signed off.” Honestly, we agree with Colleen Zenk. Michelle did not need to set the record straight, but she did. She chose to be vulnerable and speak her truth, and that’s commendable!
