Asha Alahan is heading for a rough patch on Coronation Street. After a disastrous day on the job leaves her shaken, she’ll need someone to step in and help her get back on her feet. But who will that person be?
Asha Breaks Down
Viewers will see Asha take centre stage in the special episode airing Monday, 25 August. During a shift as a trainee paramedic, things spiral badly and she suffers a panic attack. Instead of asking for help, she turns to alcohol in an attempt to block out the pain. The timing makes it even worse. Her twin brother Aadi leaves just as this happens, taking away the person she has always leaned on.
For the first time, Asha is left to deal with her struggles on her own, and the loneliness hits her hard. Tanisha Gorey, who plays Asha, admitted her character might consider leaning on Nina. Although their relationship as a couple didn’t last, they’ve stayed close friends, and Nina has always been there for her. But Gorey also explained that Asha feels too alone to admit what’s really going on, so opening up won’t come easily.
Coronation Street: Lisa Swain To The Rescue
It turns out that the real support comes from an unexpected corner. Next week, Lisa Swain steps in and encourages Asha to speak to her superiors about what happened on her shift. Lisa’s advice gives Asha the push she needs to stop hiding and start facing the truth. For Gorey, the storyline is huge.
She said she feels honoured to take on something of this scale, and explained that stepping into the role of a trainee paramedic has been both moving and eye-opening. She added that the story carries huge responsibility, and the cast worked hard to show the reality of the job. Gorey explained that if the plot encourages a conversation, offers understanding, or helps even one person, then it will have done its job.
Coronation Street isn’t holding back with this plot, showing how quickly pressure can overwhelm someone who’s already struggling. Asha’s panic attack and reliance on drink highlight just how fragile things have become. While Nina may still play a part as a supportive friend, it’s Lisa Swain who takes the lead in pulling Asha through. By encouraging her to speak up, Lisa gives her the lifeline she needs at her lowest moment. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street news and spoilers!
