Princess Kate: The Wales Family Welcomes New Member!
The Sun reported that Princess Kate ‘s four-legged companion recently gave birth to a litter of puppies. The whole royal family is over the moon with a source revealing, “Mother and babies are doing well.” However, Buckingham Palace hasn’t made it official on social media as we’re writing.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are totally smitten and so are their kids, George, Charlotte, little Louis. The insider continued, “Everyone loves a new royal baby news and so new royal puppies run very close.” Where is the lie? For those who don’t know, Orla has been part of the Wales family since 2020, and her backstory is really special.
The black beauty was a gift to Kate by her brother, James Middleton after his doggo Luna gave birth to six puppies. Back then, James shared Luna’s happy news on Instagram, revealing how all six puppies had found loving homes. One of those homes just happened to be Kensington Palace and the rest is history.
When Did Orla Join the Royals?
Catherine kept Orla’s adotpion a secret until 2022 before hard-launching it on Princess Charlotte’s 7th birthday pictures. Yep, that was the day everyone learned about the cocker spaniel and the meaning of her name. So, Orla means Celtic gem that symbolises a “golden princess” and isn’t her name-game spot on?
Meanehile, Orla joined the family just before the family bid goodbye to their previous pup, Lupo. The black cocker spaniel was gifted to Will and Kate by James Middleton after their wedding in 2011. It remained by their side during William’s deployment to the Falklands.
Losing him was a tough moment for the couple but Orla filled the void. In April 2025, the Wales royals shared a glimpse of Orla on their National Pet Day post on Instagram. In the picture, Orla rocked the side-profile with her fur slightly damp from all the outside adventure.
