Zayn Malik has changed in recent years, as he has been willing to discuss his time on One Direction. The boy band disbanded in 2016, a year after Zayn left. However, the Pillotalk singer has recently started opening up about his experience in the band. While promoting his fourth album, Zayn confessed he regretted leaving 1D.
Not technically, but indeed! Zayn told podcaster Zach Sang that he felt bad for not enjoying his time in the band enough. Zayn added that he took things seriously, and his mindset of seeing the ‘glass half empty’ made things more dramatic. With this mindset, he competed with his fellow bandmates instead of following harmony.
However, his mindset has changed since he and his ex-girlfriend, Gigi Hadid, welcomed their first daughter, Kai. Zayn added that he felt his daughter had brought back the color into his life. When he looks back, Zayn Malik misses his time in the band. Back then, he had a teen angst thing that stopped him from staying in the bad. But now everything has changed.
Shortly after his statement, his fans flooded the comment section. Many showered love and praised his healed mindset, while others asked for his therapist’s details. However, Zayn Malik Wasn’t Always Optimistic About The Band
In 2016, the Dusk Till Dawn singer confessed that he was frustrated with One Direction. He realized that the direction they were taking the music in differed, and it didn’t suit Zyan’s style. He further added, “I couldn’t give my opinion on this or that because it didn’t fit the grain.” So, his frustration forced him to leave the place.
Furthermore, the crazy schedule was also the reason behind Zayn’s exit. He told Vogue in 2018 that they went from theaters to arenas to stadiums really quickly, which affected him slightly. Further, the boys’ personalities were different, which also made things more complicated.
However, he had never imagined that his teammates would badmouth him after his departure. “I would never have expected,” Zayn added. But instead, Zayn dropped his first solo album, causing disagreement among the group. However, the Night Changes singer revealed in the Call Her Daddy podcast in July 2023 that he was selfish. He selfishly wanted to leave the group, become the first person to leave, and come up with his own record.
Zayn Malik stated that although he was passive, he became competitive in his music or business. Not only this but there was also an underlying problem with their friendship.
