It’s finally time for Dev and Bernie’s big day on Coronation Street, and no one expected it to go off without a hitch. Between Bernie’s money-saving ideas and Dev’s knack for drama, this wedding was always going to bring some chaos. But what actually goes down across the week is something else entirely, and it all starts way before they even reach the altar.
Things Get Messy Right from the Start
Every wedding starts going down the same path, the pre-wedding festivities. For Bernie, it’s no different. Everything starts to go downhill with the stag and hen parties. Bernie, trying to keep things cheap, grabs some budget suits for Dev and Aadi and throws a quiet hen do at the Bistro. She’s doing her best to stay low-key, but then she finds out the lads are having their own fun over at the Rovers, and apparently there’s a pole dancer involved.
That sets Bernie off. She storms over to the pub, furious, only to find the stags in full swing, cheering on the dancer. As if the pre-wedding madness wasn’t enough, the morning of the big day brings more trouble. The quads fall ill, which means a big part of the family can’t come. Joseph steps in to look after them, and they end up watching the ceremony from home on a livestream. Not exactly the big family moment Bernie was hoping for.
Coronation Street: A Missing Locket, A Surprise Proposal, And A Health Emergency
The next problem hits while Bernie’s getting ready, she suddenly remembers her lucky locket; the one with a photo of her late son, Paul. It’s not with her, so she heads home to grab it.
But when she gets there, she walks in on a burglary. Back at the Bistro, guests are starting to get antsy with no bride in sight. Debbie, trying to save the mood, jumps up and sings, which somehow ends in her proposing to Ronnie Bailey! Didn’t see that coming.
Somehow, Bernie returns, gets ready, and walks down the aisle. Dev’s waiting. Everyone’s emotional. But just before they can say their vows, Bernie starts struggling to breathe, and suddenly collapses right there in front of everyone.
Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Bernie, said one minute Bernie’s full of energy, heading down the aisle, and the next, she’s on the floor and the ambulance is on its way.
Coronation Street: Bernie Chose A Kaftan As Wedding Dress!
From the images that have been revealed, it seems like Bernie hasn’t gone for a traditional white wedding dress. Instead, she went for a white and golden kaftan dress. While this has surprised many, Jane shared a sweet detail about Bernie’s wedding dress. Turns out, she helped design it herself and didn’t want anything traditional.
Jane got the idea from old footage of Elkie Brooks wearing a kaftan and asked the costume team to go for something bold. What they came up with was pure Bernie, a 70s-inspired white number that screams personality. A bit Elkie, a bit Demis Roussos, and totally her.
