Emmerdale was recently approached by an animal rights organisation. They have requested the soap’s producers to change the name of The Woolpack due to animal cruelty. But ITV hasn’t commented on anything. Keep reading to find out more details.
Is The Woolpack Set For A Major Change?
The sources confirm that Animal rights organisation Peta has requested ITV to rebrand the soap’s Woolpack pub as The Plant Woolpack Inn. Meanwhile, the Woolpack pub has been a part of the show since 1972. It is one of the most well-known places in British television. The campaign group claimed that in the wool industry, sheep are mistreated and animals are abused and treated as disposable items.
Peta is even willing to financially help them with rebranding. Furthermore, Jennifer White from the campaign group said that Tradition is not an excuse for cruelty. Many television shows are being developed to adapt to the changing perspectives. Thus, they want them to change the name as they talk a lot about sheep farming.
The campaign group thinks that changing the name would be a small change, but it would send an impactful message about animal welfare. Ms White said that they would be happy to contribute to the rebranding. Peta’s vice president, Yvonne Taylor, said that sheep are feeling beings who love their families, while in the wool industry, they are punched, kicked and treated like disposable objects. Toxic sheep dip and wool cleaning chemicals contaminate waterways.
ITV Is Silent!
Elsewhere, The Woolpack has been a crucial location in the soap. It is run by Charity Dingle along with her son, Ryan Stocks and has been a part of many dramatic plots. Meanwhile, ITV has not made any comment. Peta has also requested the real Gloucestershire establishment, The Woolpack Inn in Slad, which has been recognised among Britain’s top 50 gastropubs.
Meanwhile, owner Dan Chadwick rejected the proposal. He said that they had no plan to alter the name as it has deep roots in local heritage spanning three centuries. He said that the area was built on wool, so it is impossible to deny.
Their sign also depicts a mule carrying two sacks of wool. He added that he won’t change the name because it upsets the history. Thus, the fans wonder – Will Emmerdale change the name? Stay tuned toSoap Opera Daily for more Emmerdale updates.
